چکیده

Probe measurements in the scrape-off layer of tokamak plasmas show that the ion saturation current signal is dominated by large amplitude bursts. Analysis of data time series from tokamak á configuration variable of unprecedented duration reveals that both burst amplitudes and waiting times are exponentially distributed. The average burst wave form has an exponential shape with a characteristic time that is independent of the burst amplitude. These results support a novel stochastic model, which suggests that the high particle density in the far scrape-off layer is due to the radial motion of uncorrelated blob-like structures. Predictions of the model describe the broad range of universality of plasma fluctuations in the boundary region of tokamak plasmas.

Collisionality dependent transport in TCV SOL plasmas

Results are presented from probe measurements at the outboard midplane scrapeoff layer region of TCV current scan experiments. It is shown that with decreasing plasma current, or increasing magnetic connection length, the radial particle density profile becomes broader and the fluctuation levels and turbulence driven radial transport increases. In the far scrape-off layer the fluctuations exhib...

Blob properties in full-turbulence simulations of the TCV scrape-off layer

To investigate blob properties in the tokamak scrape-off layer (SOL), we perform dedicated numerical nonlinear simulations of plasma turbulence in the SOL of a TCV discharge using the Global Braginskii Solver code. A blob detection technique is used for the first time in a threedimensional (3D) full-turbulence simulation to track the motion of the filaments in the SOL. The specific size, densit...

Non-linear simulations of the TCV Scrape-Off Layer

To investigate the mechanisms leading to the heat deposition onto the first wall in the Scrape-Off Layer (SOL), we perform dedicated numerical non-linear simulations of the SOL plasma dynamics of a TCV discharge using the GBS code. The simulated parallel heat flux profiles on the limiter agree qualitatively with the experimental ones obtained by means of infrared thermography, showing a double ...

Stochastic modeling of intermittent scrape-off layer plasma fluctuations.

Single-point measurements of fluctuations in the scrape-off layer of magnetized plasmas are generally found to be dominated by large-amplitude bursts which are associated with radial motion of bloblike structures. A stochastic model for these fluctuations is presented, with the plasma density given by a random sequence of bursts with a fixed wave form. When the burst events occur in accordance ...
